Learn To Read Music

Not many people seem to realize that sheet music – the “music on paper” that musicians read in order to PRODUCE the sounds required by certain musical pieces – can be far more important than the skill with which musicians play, or the soul that they inject into the piece. Without the PIECE itself, without the sheet music, there will be nothing to play. While it is perfectly possible to learn to play music by ear, there is something a little more profound about playing music – especially classical pieces – based off of sheet music. This is why the first thing that a person is required to do when taking up music is to learn to read music. When you learn to read music, you will understand the subtle nuances of the piece – going faster, going slower, changing tempo extending the notes. All of these elements serve to make up the whole of the piece, and once you understand these elements, then you will, in effect, understand the actual piece. That being said, you have to learn to read music in order for you to be truly be able to play music.
